Is the app free?
Lekhanam Core is free — including the editor, AI writing, cover design, and PDF export. Lekhanam Pro (Word and ePub export) is a one-time $9.99 purchase, but is currently free for early adopters. No subscription ever.
Which macOS versions are supported?
Lekhanam requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later and an Apple Silicon Mac (M1, M2, M3, or M4). Intel Macs are not supported. All features — including on-device AI — work on macOS 14 Sonoma, macOS 15 Sequoia, and macOS 26 Tahoe.
Is my writing data private?
Completely. All your books, characters, and chapters are stored locally in
~/Documents/Lekhanam/ on your Mac. No writing data is transmitted to any server. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
How does the AI writing assistance work?
Lekhanam runs its AI entirely on your Mac's Metal GPU — no internet connection required. The default model is Lekha AI 2B (~1.5 GB), purpose-tuned for writers. You can also switch to Qwen 2.5 Micro (1.5B), Lite (3B), or Standard (7B) from the unified model catalog. The AI offers three modes: Assist (expand, shorten, sensory boost on selected text), Ghostwriter (beats → prose), and Character Interview (multi-turn dialogue with your characters).
Can I use the app offline?
Yes — Lekhanam works entirely offline. Writing, dictation, AI assistance, cover design, and export all function without an internet connection. The only features that require a connection are the initial download of AI model weights and loading fonts on this website.
